PTFE-Teflon®

DESCRIPTION

For industrial applications, PTFE is used in bushings, bearings and seals. One of the key characteristics of PTFE is it has the lowest coefficient of friction available in a plastic. It also has a high resistance to elevated temperature. There are no appreciable decompositions at 500 degrees F, and continuous service temperature is rated 450 degrees F. It has excellent chemical resistance.

PTFE is often used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware and also used in containers and pipework to protect from reactive and corrosive chemicals. When used as a lubricant, PTFE reduces friction, wear, and energy consumption of machinery. It is also used in medical applications such as graft materials in surgery and as a coating on catheters.

NOTE: Teflon® is a registered trademark of Chemours, a subsidiary of the former DuPont.
